COP19 (20/11/13) – Agata Bator, an energy efficiency lawyer at Client Earth, works to establish laws that are good for the environment and to ensure companies and governments obey those laws.
In the case of Poland, Client Earth found the government failed to successfully implement several European Union climate and energy directives.
Only one directive was put in place on time, two directives were not implemented at all and all the others were implemented with mistakes.
Bator says an ambitious approach is needed to reduce emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change, but the Polish government lacks such ambition.
It cannot be done in a day, she says, but coal-based mindset of the Polish government needs to change if the country is to move to an environmentally friendly economy.
