COP18 (06/12/12) – Sena Alouka, executive director of Youth Volunteers for the Environment in Togo says that while energy was absent from the Millennium Development Goals, it is climbing up the political agenda.

“I think things are changing. African energy ministers met recently and they are looking to scale up hydropower and how to replenish biomass across the continent. Energy is being added to the development agenda,” says Alouka.

He believes only small scale technologies can benefit African communities in a way that large infrastructure projects like hydropower stations never will.
