COP18: Biomass could contribute significantly to global energy

From Qatar: COP18 UN Climate Change Conference 2012 in December 2012

COP18 (03/12/12) – Heinz Kopetz, President of the World Bioenergy Association talks about the process of generating bioenergy. He says this includes solid biomass, liquid biomass and also biogas from processes like anaerobic digestion.

He says bioenergy currently contributes 10% to global energy supply and that it is the most important renewable energy source. He estimates this number could grow to 20-30% in coming years.

He talks about the food vs. fuel debate but says that this is only a very small sector of the biomass energy chain.
