COP18 (05/12/12) – Tracey Lane, Programme Director at the International Hydropower Association talks about hydropower energy, which she says is the largest renewable energy globally and is expected to grow over the next decade.

She says it will be an important technology for balancing out other renewable energies and also in aiding climate change adaptation. She says it is often misunderstood as a technology and stresses the benefits water storage and water reservoirs can play in helping to tackle erratic rainfall from climate change.

She says her organsiation aims to promote sustainable hydropower – looking the economic, environmental and social considerations of each project – and says each project needs to fit local needs.
