COP18 (28/11/12) – Dr Daniel Gomez, International Advisor for Mundo Sano talks about the links between climate change and infectious diseases, particularly tropical diseases.
He says it is mostly developing countries that are affected and despite data from the World Health Organisation showing that half a million people die from such diseases each year, they still only attract 1% of funding for health.
He talks about these diseases as poverty promoters and talks about some of his work breaking down the barriers that exist to getting drugs to and implementing measures within affected communities which could help.
